Re x Ink: Bridging Reinsurance Onchain, Starting With reUSD on Ink
Today, Re is announcing a collaboration with Ink, an Ethereum Layer 2 from the team that brought you Kraken.
Today, Re is announcing a collaboration with Ink, an Ethereum Layer 2 from the team that brought you Kraken.
Ink is built to make onchain activity faster, cheaper, and easier to use designed for real users. Re is an onchain reinsurer. Together, we are making it easier to access reinsurance-backed products with clear reporting and transparency around company activity.
This is the start of a longer relationship. We are beginning with reUSD on Ink, giving Ink users a new stable asset that is designed to be used across DeFi, not just held, while expanding the stablecoin landscape on the chain. We plan to grow from here as liquidity deepens and additional integrations go live.
What is reinsurance?
Reinsurance is insurance for insurance companies. Insurance protects you financially when something bad happens, like a car crash or a house fire. Reinsurance is the same idea, but for insurance companies. It helps them cover large losses and stay solvent when claims spike. Insurers buy reinsurance for unpredictable risks, like hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires, as well as complex lines like liability, aviation, marine, agriculture, and political risk/credit.
Reinsurance is part of the safety net that helps insurers stay reliable so people can drive cars, own homes, start businesses, and take risks, knowing one bad event will not wipe them out. And it’s a massive global market, with gross reinsurance premiums going over $1T annually.
Why this matters
Ink and Re solve complementary parts of the same problem: bringing real capital onchain in a way that feels simple, credible, and repeatable. Ink brings usability and distribution, an environment designed to help more people take onchain actions with confidence. Re brings a real-world risk primitive, reinsurance, onchain with disciplined underwriting and clear mechanics.
What Ink uniquely brings to Re
Ink gives Re a high-quality home: a pathway from exchange users to onchain usage, plus practical rails like native Kraken support for USDC deposits and withdrawals on Ink, making it easier for users to fund wallets and participate onchain. And while Ink is still early in its lifecycle, it is already showing meaningful traction, with roughly $508M TVS tracked publicly, signaling that liquidity and repeatable DeFi usage are forming quickly.
What Re uniquely brings to Ink
Re brings a differentiated stable asset designed for longevity: reUSD, a stable, yield-accruing core asset connected to real-world risk transfer economics. That helps Ink offer something durable to users and builders, a stable unit meant to show up across trading, lending, borrowing, collateral, and settlement as the ecosystem expands.
The stablecoin landscape on Ink and where reUSD fits
Ink is already building a real base of dollar liquidity, with roughly $521M in stablecoins onchain and $885M in bridged assets. Stablecoins are what people actually use, the unit of account for trading, lending, borrowing, and settlement. Today, Ink’s stablecoin set is led by widely recognized dollars, USDC, USDG, and USDT, which keeps liquidity legible and usable as the ecosystem grows. Because the set is still curated, each new serious stablecoin can meaningfully expand what builders can support, including more markets, more collateral options, and more everyday use cases.
reUSD is designed to be that kind of serious stablecoin: a stable core asset with clear, repeatable reporting that can be used across Ink-native applications. reUSD is designed to become a core stable asset on Ink as liquidity deepens, to support real usage across trading, lending, collateral, and settlement.
Live today on Ink
reUSD is already deployed and usable on Ink, and holders can bridge it over and start using it immediately. Liquidity is the next unlock. The pools and routing are in place, and the focus now is scaling depth so reUSD can support larger, smoother swaps and become a true core trading and collateral asset on Ink. Points eligibility is unchanged: all reUSD holders on Ink remain fully points eligible, and users who bridge to Ink keep earning points under the same conditions as on other supported chains.
